Peace Sign Origins

The peace sign. It stand's for peace right?

But honestly, why does a chicken footprint within a circle stand for peace?

Apparently, it was created by a Holtom, a textile designer in London, 1958 for a nuclear disarmament protest.

Holtom used maritime flag semaphore signals for the letters "N" for nuclear and "D" for disarmament and put them in a circle. The symbol is essentially a logo for the concept of nuclear disarmament! Such graphic elegance.
